Liquid Funktion began back in 2016 as a charity event raising money for Alzheimers Research UK as well as bringing some much needed liquid dnb vibes to Edinburgh which were distinctly lacking at the time. We got a bunch of local selectors together, booked The Annexe (formerly a part of Liquid Rooms) and had a right good night of it and raised £300 for the charity.
Since then we've been flying the liquid funk flag in Edinburgh & Scotland hosting events that feature a mixture of styles but always circulating back to our signature sound.
Our early events were small parties in the upstairs rooms of The Mash House. These were always good fun and at the time we were donating a portion of our revenues to the mental health support charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), which was a subject close to our hearts. Over the course of several events we donated just under £900 to the charity.
After a while we had the itch to book some of our favourite artists from the wider scene to bring some additional heat to the Scottish capital. We jumped straight in by booking Whiney & Inja just after they had dropped the absolute banger 'Flashlight' together. After an extremely rowdy and unforgettable night in the packed out main room of The Mash House, we knew we had a taste for it...
In the years between 2017 and 2020 we were keeping plenty busy hosting nights and spinning tunes at other peoples events wherever we could from Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and even at Outlook Festival in Pula, Croatia.
